CEEYouth project – Kick off meeting
Two weeks ago, on the 18 and 19th of November, Youth Research Center hosted the kick-off meeting of the new project “CEEYouth: The comparative study of young migrants from Poland and Lithuania”. The project, coordinated by prof. Izabela Grabowska, is an interdisciplinary study examining risks faced by young Polish and Lithuanian migrants in the United Kingdom after the Brexit Referendum vote. During the inaugural meeting researchers from Polish and Lithuanian team had an opportunity to meet in person and discuss further collaboration as well as to consult their ideas with external experts in the field of migration, who joined the extended CEEYouth team.
The meeting was opened on Sunday afternoon by prof. Izabela Grabowska welcoming everybody at SWPS University and by the introductions of the team members. Subsequently, prof. Aleksandra Grzymała-Kazłowska gave a lecture on the concept of anchoring, a pivotal notion in the project’s theoretical framework. The lecture was followed by discussions and conceptual mapping exercise. The first day finished by less formal conversations and tasting excellent food at one of the local restaurants. The second day of the meeting was devoted to the more detailed debates on different components of the project: both qualitative and quantitative. External experts, prof. Louise Ryan from the University of Sheffield and prof. Violetta Parutis from Essex University, shared their experiences in migration research and provided the team with their feedback and suggestions. After the fruitful methodological discussions project’s timeline was developed and some administrative issued was tackled. It seems like we will have a busy winter in order to start fieldwork in spring, before the Brexit date.
